The days and weeks leading up to Kase being born were filled with excitement and anticipation, but I would be lying if I said anxiety and terror were not apart of that too.
Of course we were thrilled and couldn’t wait to meet him, but at times the ‘what if’s’, the ‘what were we thinking’s’ and the ‘oh snap, it’s about to get real’s’ were kicking into full throttle.
Could we do this? Parenting two? Will I have the energy? Enough patience? Will it be too overwhelming?
Anxiety. So much ANXIETY!
Nevertheless, here we are, 3 months later, and we are still all intact! We’ve definitely had rough days, and nights (oh the nights), but we are making progress!
The truth is, without the support of our family, friends, and community in times like this, I would be a total basket case.
[and one Kase is enough. bu-dum-tshhh.]
In the days following Kase’s debut, we were showered with so much goodness! For starters, my amazing, one-of-a-kind mom stayed at our place for the first week and took care of everything for us! She cooked for us, did our laundry, took Maxy to the park everyday, and she even asked if we had a bell that we could ring whenever we needed something.
Aren’t mom’s seriously the best!? We were so thankful for all of her help that week!
The love did not stop there. After my mom headed home, we started receiving an influx of meals! Night after night neighbours and from church, even people we barely knew were coming by with delicious, hot meals and fresh baking!
Between my mom cooking and the meals we received from our community I don’t think I had to cook for the first 3 weeks!
Don’t get me wrong, I obviously love to cook, but it was an incredible gift to not have to think about getting dinner ready for those first few weeks.
If you have ever been the recipient of an unexpected, prepared meal in the days and weeks after having a baby, or during any other stressful, busy time you know what I mean! It was amazing!
Sleep is a more of a privilege, than a right when you have a newborn, so any time you don’t have to spend doing things like cooking dinner, is a definite bonus.
Not to mention, the meals were incredible! We had, homemade corn chowder and fresh biscuits, a whole smoked chicken, homemade chili, pulled pork, and homemade burgers, just to name a few!
After being so blessed by our community and church, Chels and I wanted to pay it forward. I don’t think I truly understood the value of receiving a prepared meal until we had Kase, and had experienced that level of sleep deprivation.
We started thinking about how we could pay it forward and how we could bless others while balancing our ‘newest normal’.
‘Soup Tuesday‘ was born.
Soup possibilities are deliciously endless, it’s easy to make, and it’s just as easy to make a lot of it, as it is to make a little of it.
Chels and I decided to try making ‘Soup Tuesday’ part of our weekly meal plan. It’s actually pretty easy. Just double your soup recipe and put half of it in a big mason jar for another family that night, or even the next day. Pick up a loaf of bread and a salad! Meal done.
